Polyurethane, often referred to as PU, is a polymer material known for its versatility and balanced performance. It is neither purely rubber nor plastic but combines properties of both, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.

One of the key advantages of polyurethane lies in its mechanical strength. It offers excellent resistance to abrasion, impact, and oil—characteristics that are especially useful in demanding environments. Because of this, polyurethane is commonly used in the production of wheels, rollers, seals, gaskets, and various wear-resistant components.



In manufacturing, polyurethane can be processed into different hardness levels, allowing it to serve both flexible and rigid functions. For instance, soft polyurethane is often used in cushioning or vibration damping, while harder grades are selected for load-bearing or wear-heavy tasks.
Unlike rubber, polyurethane maintains its shape better under pressure and is less prone to crackingor weather-related degradation. At the same time, it can offer higher load capacity and longerservice life in certain applications compared to traditional plastics.
Another important feature of polyurethane is its ability to bond well with metals and other substrates. This makes it a preferred material in composite parts, where rubber may not provide sufficient adhesion or dimensional stability.
Polyurethane is also appreciated for its customization potential. Through adjustments in formulation, manufacturers can fine-tune properties like hardness, color, chemical resistance, and thermal stability—meeting specific requirements in industries such as transportation, packaging, and machinery.
However, polyurethane is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Its performance depends heavily on correct processing and material selection. Factors like curing time, mold temperature, and the choice of isocyanates or polyols can significantly influence the final product quality.
